Shatter the frame. Rewrite the rules.

Sweet Valley is the Archaeopteryx of Roastersaurus, revealed as part of the new Slipwing class. Slipwings are boundary-breakers: coffees that refuse to play by the rules, smashing apart the frame of what coffee should be. From robustas to libericas, from experimental blends to wild fermentations, Slipwings thrive in disruption. Sweet Valley embodies this spirit perfectly, a mystery blend that shifts year to year, impossible to pin down yet consistently vibrant and candy-sweet.

The Art

This card was illustrated by the talented @kitsukaizen. The artwork shows our Archaeopteryx in flight, stirring up a little fun chaos as it breaks boundaries by blending different coffees. In the foreground, the dino bursts through the frame, leaves and ripe coffee cherries pulled along in its wake. Behind it sits the iconic Café Granja La Esperanza house, grounding this Slipwing in its true origin at Potosí farm.

The Producer: Café Granja La Esperanza

Sweet Valley is produced by Café Granja La Esperanza (CGLE), one of the most renowned and influential names in specialty coffee. Led by Rigoberto Herrera and his family, CGLE has been breaking boundaries in Colombia for decades, consistently challenging expectations of what coffee can be

Their story began when Rigoberto and his brother Luis took over the family’s Potosí farm, moving away from volume-driven production to focus entirely on quality. From there, they expanded to several farms: Potosí, Las Margaritas, Cerro Azul, La Esperanza, and Hawaii, each dedicated to experimentation with varieties, climate, and process.

CGLE became world-famous for their Geisha from Cerro Azul, which stunned the industry by proving Colombian coffee could rival Panama in finesse and complexity. Since then, they have developed their own hybrids such as Mandela and CGLE17, and have been at the forefront of controlled fermentations that inspired producers across the world.

Sweet Valley itself is a perfect example of this pioneering spirit. It challenges the idea that top coffees must always be single varietal. Instead, it is a crafted blend that changes with each harvest, built from varieties only the farm truly knows. What could easily be dismissed as chaos becomes harmony in the hands of CGLE, a reflection of their long history of pushing boundaries.

The Farm: Potosí

Sweet Valley is grown at Potosí farm, in Caicedonia, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The farm sits between 1,499 and 1,800 masl, with an average temperature range of 15–31°C and annual rainfall of 2,267mm. High humidity levels (80–86%) demand precision in drying and fermentation.

Spanning just over 18 hectares, Potosí is a cornerstone of CGLE’s operations. It has become a testing ground for different varietals including Caturra, Colombia, Mandela, and experimental selections, and a foundation for Sweet Valley’s shifting profile.

The Coffee: Sweet Valley Natural

The defining feature of Sweet Valley is that it is a post-harvest blend. After each lot is processed, selected varieties are combined to create a profile that is both consistent in style and reflective of the year’s harvest. This makes Sweet Valley a mystery blend, different every season but always true to its candy-fruited, layered identity

The name reflects both its home in Valle del Cauca, one of Colombia’s most fertile valleys, and the sweet, fruit-forward character in the cup.

Processing

Sweet Valley is a natural process coffee. Whole cherries are harvested at peak ripeness and carefully dried under controlled conditions. The balance of warm days and cool nights in Valle del Cauca slows drying, allowing fruit character to intensify. High humidity requires careful management, but CGLE’s experience ensures clean, vibrant results.

The blend of varieties and the natural process give Sweet Valley its vivid, fruit-driven profile, with layers of sweetness and complexity that shift but never disappoint.

Cup Character

Strawberry, watermelon, apple, and cherry over a silky body, lifted by a floral edge and a port-like undertone. Juicy, vibrant, and smooth, Sweet Valley is bold, layered, and playful, the very essence of a Slipwing.

  • Agility 8 (Acidity) → Bright and lively, with a zesty sparkle that keeps the cup quick and energetic.
  • Power 8 (Body Weight) → A strong, mouth-filling presence; the fruit flavours land with clarity and force.
  • Bite 7 (Tactile Edge) → Juicy, winey snap, adding effervescence to the fruits.
  • Stamina 7 (Aftertaste) → A finish that lingers, carrying fruit and florals into a long echo.
  • Charm 7 (Sweetness) → Candy-like, playful sweetness; strawberry and watermelon make it irresistible.
  • Armour 4 (Structure) → A medium, silky build, stable enough to hold flavour, delicate enough to let fruits shine.

Special Skill: Blend Breaker

Every Slipwing carries a skill that reflects its role in the world. For Sweet Valley, that is Blend Breaker, a nod to its power to fracture expectations. In specialty coffee, blends are often dismissed in favour of single varietals. Sweet Valley turns that idea upside down. It is not only a blend, but one that shifts each year, built from varieties only the farm truly knows. What may look like chaos is in fact harmony, an adventure hiding in plain sight.

Collect & Discover

Every pack of Sweet Valley came with a Roastersaurus card. Each coffee reveals a dinosaur archetype, and Sweet Valley introduces the Archaeopteryx as part of a new class called Slipwing, the boundary-breakers of Roastersaurus.

The card holds more than flavour notes and story. Attack type, stats, and skills all carry meanings that are only now beginning to be revealed. Hold onto your cards and keep collecting, their full significance will come into play when the rules are revealed in October.
